Generally speaking, the order of catalytic activity of Pt, Rh, Ru, Pd, Ir and other noble metal catalysts for the partial oxidation of CH4 is: RhPtRuPdIr.
Among them, Pt and Rh have attracted much attention due to their excellent reactivity and anti-carbon deposition properties.
The activity order of the non-precious metal catalysts for the partial oxidation of methane is NiCoFe.
The order of catalyst activity for methane steam reforming reaction is: Ru≈RhNiIrPd=PtCO≈Fe.
Therefore, ideal catalysts for autothermal reforming of methane are Rh, Ni, Ru.
However, the price of precious metals is relatively expensive. Ni-based catalysts have good catalytic performance and low price, and have good research and application prospects. However, Ni-based catalysts have serious deactivation problems such as carbon deposition.
