What Is Flint Clay

Flint clay is kaolinitic mudstone that distinctively differs from widely known shale in lithology, genesis, and economic uses.
Flint clay is described as a fine-grained, compact, non-fissile, essentially monomineralic kaolinitic rock that breaks with a conchoidal ("flinty") fracture, has almost no natural plasticity, and resists slaking. It is valuable as a refractory raw material but is also geologically interesting because of its sedimentology, unique in some respects.

What Is Poly Aluminium Chloride

Poly aluminium chloride, or PAC for short, is a chemical compound used during water treatment process. It is an acidic solution made from aluminium, chlorine, hydrogen and oxygen, and act as coagulating agent.
Polyaluminium Chloride is a safer alternative to several other chemical coagulants. For instance, aluminium sulphate has been widely used as coagulant for many years. It removes contaminates and general turbidity from water during the water treatment process. However, this compound leaves behind large traces of aluminium in the water, causing sludge-like waste and requires further filtration and purification process to achieve clean water. Thus, the compound may implicate the ecosystem and the overall sustainability of the industry.
Polyaluminium chloride on the other hand, possesses lower doses of aluminium. It leaves a significantly fewer aluminium traces in the water, as well as sludge by-products. PAC is characterized by the degree of basification (%), which is the concentration of hydroxyl groups relative to aluminium ions. The higher the basicity number, the lower the aluminium content in the compound – which means the higher the performance in contaminant removal.

What Is the Use of Poly Aluminium Chloride

Poly aluminium chloride (PAC) is most commonly used in the water treatment industry as a coagulant. It is characterised by the degree of basification – the higher this number the higher the polymer content which equals a more efficient product in the clarification of water products.
Other uses of PAC include within the oil and gas industries for oil refining where the product works as an oil-water emulsion destabiliser offering excellent separation performance. In terms of crude oil, any water presence equals a reduced commercial value and higher refining costs, so this product is essential in ensuring optimum efficiency.
PAC is also used in the production of deodorants and anti-perspirant products as the active ingredients that essentially creates a barrier on the skin and helps to reduce levels of sweat. In the paper and pulp industries It is used as a coagulant in papermill wastewater.

What Is the Difference Between Poly Aluminum Chloride and Basic Aluminium Chloride

● Information is different, basic aluminum chloride is black powder, english abbreviation BAC, poly aluminum chloride is a yellow, yellowish-brown powder or particle.

● The production of raw materials are different, alkali aluminum chloride is processed from aluminum ash; poly aluminum chloride is made by mixing calcium powder with hydrochloric acid. Since the price of raw materials is different, the selling price will also be different.

● The application field is different, the polymeric aluminum chloride is based on the basic aluminum chloride developed new products, the scope of application is more extensive, the polymeric aluminum chloride in industrial sewage, domestic sewage and drinking water are applied, the basic aluminum chloride is mainly used in industrial sewage.
In general, poly aluminum chloride acid will be a little higher, alkali aluminum chloride alkaline will be a little higher. The pH of industrial grade of polymeric aluminum chloride is about 5, the basic type of aluminum chloride is about 5.5-6, and the pH of drinking water grade of polymeric aluminum chloride is about 4.
General treatment of acidic sewage will add basic poly aluminum chloride, but this is not environmentally friendly, now sewage treatment is ordinary poly aluminum chloride.

Poly Aluminium Chloride - Advantages

PAC polyaluminum chloride has good spray drying stability, wide adaptability to water area, fast hydrolysis speed, strong adsorption ability, large alum flower formation, dense precipitation and low effluent turbidity, dehydration performance and other advantages, in the case of the same water quality, spray drying polyaluminum chloride dosage is reduced, especially in the case of poor water quality, spray drying product dosage compared with drum drying polyaluminum chloride, can be reduced by half, not only reduce the labor intensity of workers, and more important is to reduce the cost of water production.
The use of spray drying products can ensure safety, reduce water accidents, and is very safe and reliable for drinking water. Polymeric aluminum chloride, referred to as high-efficiency poly aluminum chloride, or high-efficiency PAC. The use of the most advanced production technology, the use of high-efficiency reaction polymerization of high-quality raw materials. Poly aluminum chloride is processed by spray drying process. Therefore, it can also be called high efficiency spray drying Poly aluminum chloride. Poly aluminum chloride PAC product characteristics: PAC products with fine powder, uniform particles, soluble in water, flocculation effect is good, high efficiency and stability, less dosage, low cost. Suitable for drinking water purification, urban water purification and industrial water purification and other aspects; Suitable for all kinds of turbidity of the source water, PH wide range of application, alum flower formation, fast, fast settling speed.
PAC Poly aluminum chloride water insoluble: the use of plate and frame filter technology, the solid water insoluble mass fraction of 0.3% or less, liquid water insoluble mass fraction of 0.1% or less, to ensure the smooth flow of the user's pipeline, while improving the use of drugs, and the natural sedimentation method is not up to. Polyaluminium chloride PAC-01 (light yellow powder, spray-dried): used for drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment. Poly aluminum chloride-is one of the star products in the water treatment medicament series. Poly aluminum chloride combines the advantages of ordinary Poly aluminum chloride, spray type Poly aluminum chloride, paper-making special high efficiency poly aluminum chloride and many other advantages.

Different Grades of Poly Aluminum Chloride

Recommends a normal dosing rate of 0.1ml/m3 of the total flow rate, which it has also described as 0.005ml/m3 as aluminium.
There are now a number of different grades of poly aluminum chloride with aluminium concentrations between 9.5% and 18%. The concentration of aluminium is not the only consideration when selecting a grade of poly aluminum chloride to use.
Commercially available poly aluminum chloride products are characterised by their degree of basification – i.e. The concentration of hydroxyl groups (OH) relative to aluminium ions.
Poly aluminum chloride products can be in the range of 5%-65% basicity. As a general rule, the higher the basicity, the higher the polymer content and thus cationic charge density and efficiency. Higher basicity products have a lower aluminium content but are more efficient in clarification of water (i.e. Turbidity/suspended solids removal).
Because there is less aluminium content there is less aluminium in the backwash water. Furthermore, aluminium residuals are minimised. The lower aluminium content products have a higher basicity.

Poly Aluminium Chloride Structure

The structure of Poly Aluminium Chloride is composed of aluminum cations (Al3+) surrounded by hydroxyl ions (OH-) and chloride ions (Cl-). The combination of these ions results in a highly charged polymer with a net positive charge. This unique structure allows PAC to effectively neutralize the negative charges present in suspended particles in water, leading to the formation of flocs and facilitating their easy removal during the coagulation process.

Q: What is calcium aluminate used for?

A: Calcium-aluminate cements are primarily used for high heat refractory applications. Other uses include moderate acid-resistant applications, high-early-strength and quick-setting mixtures, and as part of the expansive component in some shrinkage-compensating cements.

Q: What is the purpose of a fireboard?

A: A fireboard or chimney board is a panel designed to cover a fireplace during the warm months of the year.

Q: Do I need to use fireboard?

A: Fireboard. As we mentioned above, all plasterboards are fire-resistant due to the nature of gypsum they are formed from. But if your building regulations require stricter fire protection, then you need fireboard. It is a more fire retardant sheet of gypsum board, and it has glass fibres mixed in with the gypsum..

Q: How long does fire board last?

A: Typically, a fire-rated plasterboard is given a rating that corresponds to the length of time it can offer resistance to fire. A 30 or 60-minute fire-rated board is the most commonly used for internal walls and ceilings. Fire-rated plasterboard also helps to ensure that walls and ceilings are better insulated.

Q: What is an example of an acid brick?

A: Acid Refractory Bricks: They are resistant to the melts of acidic composition (but will react with the melts of basic composition). Example: Fire-clay bricks, silica bricks.

Q: What size are acid proof bricks?

A: Standard Sizes : 230 x 114 x 38mm thick & 230 x 114 x 75mm thickness. However, Special size & thickness of Acid Proof Bricks may be available on large or regular Quantity Orders.

Q: What is poly aluminum chloride used for?

A: Polyaluminum chlorides are utilized directly in primary coagulation in drinking water and municipal wastewater treatment. Polyaluminum chlorides are also used in sludge dewatering applications. Polyaluminum chlorides are not used to manufacture other water treatment chemicals.

Q: How does poly aluminium chloride react with water?

A: Polyaluminium chloride is the one of the first chemicals that are added in the water during the coagulation process. The compound is highly charged, where it reacts and neutralizes the negative charge on dirt and other dissolved particles. This will allow the compound to bind together to form larger particles.

Q: What is poly aluminium chloride used for in industry?

A: PAC is used for several applications including the treatment of drinking water, swimming pool water, wastewater treatment, the treatment of sewage and industrial effluents. It is also used extensively in the pulp and paper processing industry.

Q: How much poly aluminium chloride is needed in water treatment?

A: PAC should be dosed as far upstream of the filters as possible, but after the chemical controller's sample point. PAC should be dosed continuously using a peristaltic pump. All grades of PAC should be dosed at a rate of 0.1ml/m3 of the total flow rate.

Q: Is PAC a coagulant or flocculant?

A: Overall, PAC was selected as the most effective coagulant among the three coagulants used. At defined optimum experimental conditions (coagulant dose: 70 mg/L, coagulant aid dose: 2 mg/L and pH 7), PAC showed 70% removal for COD and 98% of TSS.

Q: Is poly aluminium chloride acidic or alkaline?

A: Polyaluminium Chloride is an acidic solution. Classified as corrosive at higher concentrations, it is typically yellow in colour. It is miscible with water at all concentrations although dilute solutions hydrolyse to precipitate Aluminium Hydroxide (Al(OH)3).

Q: Why is PAC used in water treatment?

A: Polyaluminum Chloride (PAC) is one of the most efficient water treatment chemicals utilized today. It is widely used in both potable water and wastewater treatment because it provides high coagulation efficiency and it has the widest pH and temperature application ranges compared to other water treatment chemicals.

Q: What is poly aluminium chloride used in swimming pools?

A: Polyaluminium chloride is used because there are many micro-substances and sweat, cosmetics and microorganisms secreted by human activities in the swimming pool. It is difficult to remove with quartz sand filter alone or simple filtration. Therefore, the coagulant - Polyaluminium chloride PAC needs to be added.

Q: What is the difference between poly Aluminium Chloride and alum?

A: PACl is a poly-nuclear form of AlCl3 species, containing already highly positive charged species, such as "Al13" in relatively high con- centrations, even without the hydrolysis step. Consequently, PACl is considered as a more efficient coagulant than alum, mainly because of its higher overall positive charge.

Q: Is poly aluminium chloride a flocculant?

A: PAC polyaluminum chloride is used as a flocculant in water treatment and supplied as a water solution or as powder, which facilitates the transport and storage operations and subsequent dosage of the reagent.

Q: What are the features of Polyaluminium Chloride?

A: Polyaluminium chloride has several features important during water treatment process, and the features are outlined in the following list:-
PAC helps speeding up the process of flocs formation, and the settling of the flocs at the bottom.
The process makes flocs that are formed easier to be filtered out.
PAC helps improve the water quality better as compared to other chemicals.
PAC helps reduce the overall cost of water treatment by 15-30%.
Compared to inorganic coagulants or flocculants, PAC is suited to broad water temperature including at low temperature.
PAC is also suitable at broad water pH, with functionality between pH 5 to pH 9.
Water treated using PAC has fewer salts content and can be used for ion-exchange treatment.
PAC contains lower corrosivity level and is easy to handle and operate.

Q: How does poly aluminium chloride work?

A: Water treatment is one of the crucial processes to ensure the distribution of clean and safe water to consumers. There are several contaminants and impurities in the water source that need to be removed and treated prior to the distribution. To achieve that, several steps for water treatment processes, including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection are performed.
